From the 10th to the 17th of September the Centre of Biodiversity and Sustainable Land Use at the University of Göttingen organized the DAAD Alumni seminar „Scientific Debating about Sustainable Agriculture – Biodiversity protection supported by breeding, biological plant protection and mixed crop cultivation“.
25 participants, agricultural scientists from all around the globe, had an extensive program in Göttingen and later at the Tropentag in Kassel.
Communicating one’s own arguments in a scientifc debate was also part of the program, and the team of AgrarDebatten was happy to be a part of it. After some preparation, the participants debated two topics in a public event at the Sternwarte in Göttingen.
Here you can listen to the first debate. The given resolution was „Only mono culture can feed the growing world population“.
The affirmative team consisted of Jeshma Bakwowi of the National Centre For Education, Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovations in Cameroon (HU Berlin Alumnus), Ibukun Ayoola of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Nigeria (JLU Gießen Alumna) and Tran Trung Duc of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in Vietnam (MLU Halle-Wittenberg Alumnus).
The negative team consisted of Le Le Win of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Yangon, Myanmar (GAU Göttingen Alumna), Sheheli Shonia of the Bangladesh Agricultural University (HU Berlin Alumna) and Reza Mirzaeitalarposhti of the Shahid Beheshti University in Iran (Hohenheim Alumnus).
